Whilst I was in Edinburgh following the review, I visited the Dovecot Tapestry Studios and Gallery. The Gallery occupies the Infirmary Street Baths which were built in 1885 by Robert Morgan. The Ladies Baths space is now used by Dovecot Gallery for the exhibitions and events space whereas the Dovecot Tapestry Studio occupies the main swimming pool area.
The Dovecot has been working in collaboration with leading international artists by commission from private and public collectors since 1912. Which leads to pieces of a significant level of creative endeavour and superior craftsmanship in the spirit of continuing advancement of craft and visual art in all its forms.
As well as the viewing area for the weavers studios and works by the artists themselves, several areas of the exhibits were of interest for myself, including an area which promoted sustainable material use, circular economies and responsible design which I would like to look further into to possibly include in my work for the second semester's design project.
