Municipality (council) owned sites within the lower Ouseburn valley were located by using the Who Owns Britain map:
The site for the project has been heavily influenced by prior research into gentrification and the likelihood of new residential developments negatively impacting existing music venues in up and coming artistic areas. By locating the new residence between two public houses, one already negatively affected by developments in the area, the new scheme can look to address the varying issues surrounding the acoustic environment of the site, such as the noise sources from the Tyne bar and Free Trade and their respective beer gardens which have both seen complaints from The Malings development to the north as well as containing any noise from the scheme itself from the existing Citipeak Apartments and the Malmo Quay development under construction.
