MATERIALITY

To understand better the way in which our investigations overlapped, Richard and I had a discussion at length about Materiality and the ways it could be relevant to our own enquiries. After reviewing the way that materials interacting with each other is covered by Materiality, I tried to apply this topic to my own interests in how people move, considering how people and materials are in a constant conversation as people move around the site.

I spent the afternoon researching the ideas of Materiality further and reading the Whitechapel reader on Materiality to gain a better perspective of how artists view Materiality and how matter, touch and material build up are crucial ideas for some artists to create meaningful works.

Beneath are some personal notes and what I find to be interesting thoughts on the subject by various artists, academics and critics, found in the Materiality reader.
