House like Village - Marc Koehler Architects

Characteristically like a settlement, the way in which the space is divided can be considered a set of small houses inside of the house itself. Small streets emerge as multifunctional living spaces for the more spontaneous, footloose activities of life.

In contrast the house-like volumes contain less mobile activities such as the bedrooms and bathroom and storage. By compressing certain spaces like the bedrooms, open spaces expand - similar to the way in which Farnsworth House and Glass House organise their private and public spaces. The streets also carry daylight right into the heart of the house and provide great views outwards.

The open space can be ‘colonized’ in the future, constructing extra volumes, when the family expands.
