After yesterdays discussion with Richard, we had come to an initial idea for our 1:1 artefact. This gave us a palette of materials to work from, which led us both to salvage materials from a range of places to ensure we had enough raw materials to work with tomorrow in the workshop. Below are some of the raw materials which were salvaged from the skip outside the Fine Arts building on campus.
I also de-moulded the plaster casting of the Mezuzah which initially was too fragile to remove in one piece. Due to this, I assumed that the plaster mix was too thin when poured so I mixed a thicker plaster and recast this item, which seemed to hold together much better. Despite there being some clear air bubbles on the cast, I deemed this good enough for an initial iteration and to film a video piece with to record the traces of use a Mezuzah would typically go through.
