Following a talk with Ayse a week or so ago and a day trying to edit the questionnaire of my study, I realised I needed to focus in on what exactly I wanted to find out from my research. This reviewing of the question led me back to my original notes from my first talk with Ayse, where I discussed more of an interest in the 'perceptions' of the city - how the city makes us feel.
To follow up on this train of thought, I began to look for articles etc which reference this kind of architectural theory/psychology. This is where I found the Strong Towns' article 'Pay Attention to How a City Makes You Feel' and subsequently went down the rabbit hole of following links from one article through to further articles from the journal until I came across 'Why We Should Build Cities for Our Unconscious Brains' and the subsequent podcast (embedded below):
Using this as a springboard, I began to reframe my question and address the excessive word count to my literature review, working from the perspective of researching the perception of citites and how they make us feel rather than the effects they have on our mental health, which requires much more specialised research.
I've now reduced the number of questions on the questionnaire to ensure the data collected will be more focussed. This has been sent to Ayse to be checked and can also be found below:
