The Gentrification Cycle

Gentrification is the process of renovating areas so that they appeal to a new class of people. This process, in which neighbourhoods experience an influx of new residents and the environment goes through a perceived a revitalisation, is prevalent in many creative areas in UK cities and has proven to be a threat to city inhabitants. One of the most deleterious effects of Gentrification is displacement, associated with reduced efforts of improving areas for communities and making them better places to live which, alongside raising rents, sees the original community priced out of their own community. Gentrification is often considered an improper approach to changing urban environments within cities.
