Below is the pro forma for the research papers I decided to read as part of the conduction of the literature review for the literature review. I also wrote the overview for the literature review section which follows the pro forma below.

Overview

The literature review is a critical analysis of current research, views and findings in the field to refine, summarise previous research and theories; identify areas of controversy and highlight any gaps that may exist in research to date (The University of Edinburgh, 2019). An initial range of relevant research papers and policy documents were reviewed on the topic of the effects of the built environment on users’ mental health and wellbeing.

A comparative proforma was carried out to analyse the quality of the research papers before identifying the primary themes of the papers through thematic analysis and the undertaking of extensive critical analysis to allow for the aims, objectives, methodologies, findings and conclusions of the papers to be compared.

The existing literature is reviewed within each of these primary themes in the following sections to successively establish a gap in the knowledge on the topic. The identified gap in knowledge refines and frames this research paper.
